Owala Freesip : The Perfect Hydration Companion for an Active Lifestyle

Everyone needs to drink more water. To help quench your thirst, this excellent bottle comes with two drink lids and delightful colors.

I have been on the quest for the perfect water bottle for a long time. No, not a romantic partner - an ideal water bottle. It's not because of a lack of effort. I have spent many years cycling with reusable bottles. Some of them I liked, but in the end, they all ended up in the cupboard. They just couldn't find the right match.

My requirements are not excessive, but they are specific. I need a straw - I drink more through a straw than without one - but it should also be leakproof, which is not always the case with straw caps. For example, the viral Stanley cup leaks a bit from the small spout. My ideal bottle should have enough water to get me through the day with as few refills as possible. And it should be cute, darn it.

Until my eyes landed on the FreeSip spout, I wasn't convinced it existed.

The Genie in the Bottle:

The FreeSip is beautiful - mine is in the lovely retro boardwalk color - but it's also functional. The name refers to that mouthpiece that allows you to sip through a straw or tip it back to drink from the top. I have never seen a bottle with two options like this, keeping the big gulp at the top together. (If you don't like this, the brand also has a flip-top straw bottle, although I haven't tried it.) I also like that I can refill the bottle without removing the lid, unless I want to use ice.

The mouthpiece is made of plastic with very few corners and crevices, making it easy to clean compared to some of the other metal bottles I have used. For example, I enjoy chewing on the rubber straw of a Camelbak bottle, but I find they always get a bit funky. With this bottle, a straw brush works wonders, or you can pop the lid into the top rack of the dishwasher.

The lid opens with a press of a button and lifts easily with the handle for convenient carrying. You can also click the handle on the lower part of the closed top. You can even open the bottle with the handle down, but the handle covers the button enough that it won't accidentally open if it bumps into something. This bottle has been thrown around in my backpack and in my car, and it has fallen off sofas and beds so many times that I trust its leakproof claims.

The rest of the body is stainless steel and triple-insulated, so the water stays cold. I chose the 40-ounce option so I can make fewer trips to the kitchen for refills, but there are also 19, 24, and 32-ounce options (there's also a 25-ounce plastic version, but I think the steel is better). Even at 40 ounces, it's not too heavy. In a pinch, I could definitely use it as a weapon against an attacker, although I hope I never have to test that claim.

Although it's not unique, I like that the replacement lid and straw are available. (At the time of writing, there are no 40-ounce straws available.) The lid is probably the first thing that will go, considering that buttons and flip actions can ultimately fail, so I appreciate that I can spend $7 to fix it instead of $40.

The Long Drink of Water:

Undoubtedly, not everyone will agree. My coworker john tried the bottle too, and it didn't feel right for him, whereas my cousin  found her perfect companion in it.

However, it is a emotionally supportive water bottle that is beautiful in its own right - it's perfectly suited to your specific needs. My cats even drink from the oval palatial dish. If you're still in search of the perfect companion for yourself, this could be the FreeSip.
